To start off with, whenever I hear media personalities *coughs* (Jalangoo) claim them young guns aren’t doing enough in the music industry, I think to myself, clearly Mathare Hospital still has capacity. Such thoughts need REHAB!
Of late, I was introduced to Jodye Faneto and Skinny Gean, a MusicAllDay(MAD) Clan duo and for sure them two are next up in this music scene. Hailing from 58 and the Eastside at large, their love for their Home Turf is clear to hear from the Muchiri mentions, Jericho and Shimoli references with even Buru police station getting a reference. Similar to Buruklyn Boyz, they wear their hood on their sleeves heavy.
Rap wise, it’s clear to hear Jodye and Skinny don’t want peace they want WAR and are clearly headed for the throne. “Clipse za marapper ni empty, na send shots hazitumwi back” followed by “Game imejaa ma-bitch mnaogopa Scar, Doch na Slim” on Anaku Hook 2 is just but an example of how Jodye Faneto kicks in the doors aiming at any and every rapper out there. His use of football(soccer) references is similar to Wu-Tang’s use of Kung-Fu films and more recently Griselda’s Westside Gunn use of pro- wrestling. similarly, Skinny’s amazing story telling ability with hard hitting bars talking about how good them fists are, both videvu and bars (pen game) which you can get in equal measure make him an exceptionally good rapper. Overall beat selection, easy to flow hooks, wordplay, wit, BARS and overall verse flow, the Young Guns are strapped, safeties off and are carrying extra clips! Industry Beware!
Collectively the duo, under the name THE EAST have exploited Trap niggas problems in their 8-track mixtape titled TRAP PROBLEMS 1. Individually, Jodye Faneto recently dropped “ANAKU HOOK” a 4-track extended playlist, a follow up to “ROADMAN CHRONICLES” a mixtape made up of 7-tracks. Skinny Gean on the other hand has under his belt, “MANGAA” a 7-track mixtape.
